Schathuis Wijtwerder Heerd
The artificial dwelling hill village of Oosterwijtwerd is located on the Highland of Groningen and is a byword for space, tranquillity, scenic beauty, a rich culture with countless artificial dwelling hills, lakes (former Wadden gullies), ancient Groningen estate houses, churches with world-famous organs, museums, dykes, polders, salt marshes, and the lively Groningen student university city with its authoritative Groninger museum 20 km away. The historic city of Appingedam is nearby, as is the Delfzijl seaport town, the Dollard inlet, the Wadden Sea, the island of Schiermonnikoog and Borkum and the city of Emden.
The converted Betty farmhouse – filled with art and antiques – has been established in this tiny village since 1789 and provides comfortable overnight accommodation. Oosterwijtwerd has perfect options for cycling, canoeing, hiking and crossing the mud flats.
